Michael is part time Co Director of the Global Innovation and Leadership Academic (RCSI) which was established in April 2023 to support the global development of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare Professionals. He also works as an international leadership consultant establishing his company Global Leadership Consultancy in 2021.

Prior to his company launch Michael was the international Director at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) Institute of Leadership, based in Bahrain, for over 3 ½ years. In his role he led post graduate education to Government Legislators, Policy Makers, Nurses, Doctors, Dentists, Pharmacists and a host of Multi-Disciplinary Healthcare Professionals. Michael also provided expert policy advice to the Ministry of Health, Bahrain and Consultancy to healthcare organisations in Dubai, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Jordan.
Michael has held a number of senior posts to include Nursing Policy Advisor Department of Health and Children, Ireland, National Nursing & Midwifery Services Director for the Health Service Executive, Ireland, Area Director of Nursing & Midwifery, Dublin mid Leinster and Director of Nursing and Midwifery and Palliative Care at Letterkenny and Sligo University Hospitals and Our Lady’s Hospital, Navan. Michael held the position of Dean Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, RCSI from 2020 – 2022 and currently is Dean Emeritus. He currently works as a Consultant to the World Health Organisation. Michael currently works part time for the Irish Cancer Society as a Night Nurse providing end-of-life care to patients and supporting their families in their own homes.
Michael’s academic career includes completing his PhD at Dublin City University, BSc (Hons), University of Ulster, MBA (Hons) Smurfit Business School, University College Dublin and a Diploma in Education from Leicester University. In 2015 he completed the Post Graduate Implementation Science Programme at Trinity College, Dublin. He is also a graduate of Harvard University International Healthcare Management programme. Michael is a Registered Mediator with the Mediation Institute of Ireland.
Michael was conferred Ad Eundum Fellow, Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery RCSI in 2012 and has been appointed adjunct Professor at University College Dublin Department of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Sciences and Trinity College, Dublin. He has co-authored a number of book chapters and has published in various international publications.
